It was designed by Max and Rosemary James with members of the sheriff's office refining final details. It is designed in the shape of a shield with black and gold borders, dark green background and gold letters. There is an outline representation of Yakima County, Mount Adams and the local hills of the area and lines representing the various agricultural fields of the county, and the star represents the badge of office.
