Sheriffs Dept. - SERT - new condition - The Sheriff's Emergency Response Team (S.E.R.T.) responds to various situations and emergencies inside or outside the county jail. The SERT trains various components such as cell liberation, riot control, hostage rescue, chemical agent response, and transportation of dangerous inmates. Bergen Co. Sheriffs Dept. - K-9 Unit - new condition - Canine skills include explosives, narcotics, criminal apprehension, evidence search, tracking, tobacco detection, cell phone detection, cadaver location and recovery. The teams are deployed to prevent contraband from entering jail, search the Justice Center and other outbuildings for potentially dangerous items, assist the Sheriff's Patrol Unit in the discovery of evidence and apprehension of suspects, and search for missing persons.
